The iXi Bike is brilliant. Go admire it. Go now.
Oh, and while I'm at it, be interested in clever designs for radiant heating.
What, you want more? Okay. Here's a A Conceptual Design for Commissioner's Park [PDF] from the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation. Looks very promising; we'll see if they can get it done. Not being empowered to actually fulfill your mandate is a sad thing.

Tell me about it. I live it 9 to 5, Monday to Friday.
Posted by: the beltz at November 5, 2004 01:54 PMThough it's true that the iXi bike has a surprising amount of innovative features (rain poncho? tool kit? rubber chain?) and excellent design, I'm surprised that they treat it as an accessory, as opposed to a viable daily-life essential ("The iXi changed their minds because it’s been designed as a must-have product, a desirable lifestyle accessory. It is, in its way, as appealing as the Mini car or the iPod.").
Nor do they mention anything about environmental friendliness of biking. Perhaps caring about the environment is uncool amongst iPod-carrying hipsters.
Not that either of these things should stop you from buying one...
Posted by: kurt at November 6, 2004 06:20 PMYes, the iXi is poorly marketed! And I find the design a little dorky. Nor is there a picture anywhere on the website (that I could find) of one actually folded up and stashed away. Because if it can't do that well, then why does it look so silly? Because it's seen as an accessory rather than a vehicle. Not a healthy way to think about bikes.
But then, I LIKE bike chain grease, so maybe I'm twisted.
On a brighter note, the Commissioner's park proposal looks decent.
